Jennifer Gates Officially Files For Re-Election

Current District 13 Dallas Council member Jennifer Staubach Gates has officially filed for re-election.

Gates made the “it’s official” announcement on her Facebook page Friday morning with a throwback photo of when she first decided to run for office.

“It has been a great joy to serve the people of District 13, and our great City, over the last six years and I am honored for the opportunity to do it for two more,” Gates said in her Facebook post. “I think we can accomplish so much with experienced leadership with a heart for service down at City Hall.”

According to city records, she officially filed her paperwork with the city secretary’s office Jan. 23.

Councilmember Gates was elected to her first term as City Council Member in 2013 and reelected for a second term in 2015 and a third term in 2017.

While Gates mulled over the idea of running for Dallas mayor in the upcoming May 4 election, she announced on Twitter late November that she would be seeking a fourth and final term as the representative for Council District 13, which stretches from northwest Dallas past Preston Hollow into Vickery Meadow.

The change of heart, she said, was the best decision for herself and her family, and that she wanted to finish projects she’d started in District 13.

Those projects include the makeover of Preston Center, a proposed transformation of the Backman Lake, and a long-promised library in Vickery Meadows.

According to the city election filings, Gates currently is running unopposed.

The last day for someone to file for election is Feb. 15.
