HP Opens Season With Tourney Wins

The Highland Park girls started the season on the right foot, claiming the Scot Classic tournament title with two victories in three games over the weekend at Highlander Stadium.

The Lady Scots (2-1) opened with a 3-0 win over Cedar Park, followed by a 2-1 triumph over Plano East. HP fell to Mansfield Lake Ridge 2-1 in the finale. Goals for the Lady Scots came from Megan O’Neal, Presley Echols, Maja Davison, Ryan Bozman, and Amelia Stevens.

In boys action, HP also won two of its three games, defeating Plano John Paul II 1-0 and Waco 3-1, but falling to Adamson 5-0. Goal-scorers for the Scots (2-1) included Jack Hamilton, Jorge Rodriguez, Bosco Maldonado, and Landon Gwinn.

The boys will travel to Georgetown for the Governor’s Cup tournament beginning Thursday. The Scots will face San Antonio Harlan on Thursday, Georgetown East View on Friday, and El Paso Coronado on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the girls will be in Round Rock for a tournament including games against Smithson Valley on Thursday, Round Rock Cedar Ridge on Friday, and Austin Vandegrift on Saturday.
