Local Real Estate Broker Teams Up with Make A Wish Cancer Patient
Rogers Healy needs your old video games and consoles.
Six months ago, the local real estate broker saw a post on Facebook that pulled at his heartstrings: A woman had posted a picture asking the community for video game donations for patients suffering from cancer at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.
This is how he met MJ, the woman’s son.
After seeing the post made by Rebecca Graves, Healy reached out and asked if he could take her son shopping. Unfortunately, at the time, MJ’s cancer was pretty bad and he couldn’t get out of bed. So instead, Healy showed up at his hospital room the next morning with a bag full of Chik-fil-A (and a ton of Chick Fil A sauce).
MJ, who was a Make A Wish candidate, told Healy that his wish was to bring distraction to children and their families while at the hospital. Video games, Healy said is one way to do that.
After raising around $10,000 by “rallying his buddies” and purchasing games and equipment for the pediatric oncology unit at Children’s, Healy is now helping MJ continue his dream by creating the non-profit Vids for Kids.
He now needs your help.
“There is a scripture in the bible that if God calls you, he will equip you,” Healy said about why that Facebook post caused him to take action. “Like a lot of people I have a heart for people who are in need and I can’t imagine being 13 in a hospital without distraction. MJ is one of my heroes, and it’s time to rise to the occasion.”
Healy is asking the community to donate new and used video consoles, gaming devices, video games, and just about anything that will help distract children and their families while staying at the hospital.
