HPISD Parent Education Committee to Raise Anxiety Awareness

The same team that brought you Screenagers is shining a light on anxiety with a must-see documentary.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge in the United States, impacting 54 percent of females and 46 percent of males, according to the World Health Organization. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only one-third of those suffering receive treatment.

The HPISD Parent Education Committee will host a one-time public screening of ANGST: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety. The screening will be held at 4 p.m. Jan. 21 in the HPHS Palmer Auditorium.

Created to start a community conversation about anxiety and provide tools, resources, and hope, the showing will feature of the 45-minute film, followed by a video discussion led by film narrator and anxiety expert Jenny Howe.

In the film, children and teens discuss their anxiety and its impacts on their lives and relationships, as well as how they’ve found solutions and hope. The film also includes a special interview with Michael Phelps, a mental health advocate and one of the greatest athletes of all time.

In addition, the documentary provides discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects.
