Lacrosse rivals ESD and Jesuit don’t need much outside motivation when they play one another.

Still, the Eagles (14-2) and Rangers (15-2) will play for more than neighborhood bragging rights this weekend in the Texas High School Lacrosse League state tournament.

The two perennial powers will meet in a state semifinal at 4 p.m. Saturday in Allen. The winner will advance to the title game on Sunday against either defending champion Highland Park or Austin Westlake.

Jesuit slipped past ESD 7-6 on April 22 in their previous meeting. The Rangers cruised past Lake Travis 14-2 in the quarterfinals last weekend, while the Eagles scored a 7-4 victory over The Woodlands.

ESD has won two state titles, most recently in 2014, while Jesuit is seeking its first crown.
