Three shutouts wasn’t enough for ESD goalkeeper Nicole Curry during the SPC championships on Saturday in suburban Houston.

Curry, a Texas signee, capped a flawless tournament by scoring the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in overtime against Austin St. Stephen’s, giving the Lady Eagles their third consecutive SPC girls soccer title.

Earlier in the tournament, ESD (16-0-3) blanked Bellaire Episcopal 4-0 in the quarterfinals and Hockaday 2-0 in the semifinals. Hockaday later fell to Greenhill 4-3 in the third-place game.

In the boys bracket, two-time defending champion ESD settled for fifth place, while St. Mark’s was third. Bellaire Episcopal won the crown.

The Lions fared better in swimming, in which they defended their title, and with a runner-up finish in wrestling. Meanwhile, Hockaday claimed another girls swimming crown.

In basketball, St. Mark’s won the third-place game in the boys bracket, as did Greenhill on the girls side.
