Providence Students Take In Historical Sites

Providence Christian School seventh graders embarked on their annual Texas History trip on Nov. 4.

image003First stop was a visit to the Texas Capitol in Austin where they were captivated by the beautiful and historical architectural features as well as the political atmosphere. Next, the students toured the Texas State Cemetery where they heard many stories of heroes who embody the pride of Texas.

Next stop was San Antonio where they were impressed by the magnificence of the natural surroundings in the Natural Caverns. A highlight of the trip was the visit to the Alamo where they recited “Travis’ Letter” and viewed historical documents preserved by the Daughters of the Republic.

The group traveled to Gonzales where they visited the jail and old court houses as well as the Come and Take It cannon.

image002The class traveled on to Houston where they received a VIP tour of NASA’s Sonny Carter Training Facility for astronauts.

On their final day, the students visited the San Jacinto Museum where they learned about the final battle of the Texas Revolution and toured the Battleship Texas.

The trip provided a wonderful opportunity for the students to experience and to expand their knowledge of Texas history.
