Thirty colorful toucans lined James and Rebecca Hallam’s lawn to welcome guests to the kickoff event of the Ursuline Academy Mardi Gras scholarship fundraiser Sept. 26.

The event co-chairs, Laura Elia and Kathie Wood, announced the South American Carnival-theme at the celebration. A “Holiday Bazaar” will be held leading up to the event Nov. 13 and 14 in the school’s gymnasium.

The Mardi Gras gala event, “Copacabana: Samba down to Rio,” will be Feb. 6 at the Renaissance Hotel complete with dinner, dancing, auctions, casino, and a raffle. All proceeds from the events will go toward scholarships for students to attend Ursuline.

More toucans will be nesting on Ursuline supporters’ lawns to promote the event. For more information on the events or to register, go to www.uamardigras.org
