Jesuit already has made history this season. But this weekend, the Rangers will try to turn their first appearance at the UIL state baseball tournament into a state title.

The Rangers will open against 2012 state champion Cypress Ranch in the Class 6A semifinals at 3 p.m. Friday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. The other semifinal features Arlington Martin and Laredo Alexander, with the two winners meeting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for the title.

Jesuit (35-3-2) has the best record in the four-team field, but has been tested in the playoffs. In the Region II final, the Rangers swept Conroe Oak Ridge by scores of 3-1 and 4-0. Jesuit has allowed one run or less in eight of 12 postseason games.

The playoff run for the Mustangs (29-6) includes five shutouts in nine games, including a pair against League City Clear Creek in the Region III final last weekend. Cy Ranch dropped the first game 1-0 before rallying to win the series.

We’ll have a more detailed breakdown of the matchup later this week.
