Highland Park now has exactly one playoff win in program history, after sweeping Irving in a Class 6A Region II bi-district series last weekend.

Doubling that total will be a much more difficult proposition when the Lady Scots face unbeaten Rockwall in the area round beginning tonight.

The first game of the best-of-three series will be at 7 p.m. in Rockwall, with Games 2 and 3, if necessary, returning to HP at 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.

At least the Lady Scots won’t be battling the same nerves that might have affected their postseason debut, when they recovered to dispatch the Lady Tigers. However, their margin for error will be much smaller against the Lady Jackets (22-0-1), who are trying to become the first team in Texas to finish undefeated since 2004.

Rockwall is the top-ranked team in the state and has scored almost 300 runs this season. Last weekend, the Lady Jackets swept Killeen Ellison in two games by a combined score of 16-0. Their lineup is stacked from top to bottom.

Meanwhile, the Lady Scots (15-11) will need strong performances from pitcher Katie Bell, who blanked Irving 6-0 last Friday, as well as top hitters Amanda Reenan, Kate Hodges, and Rennie Orr.

The winner of the series will meet either Waco Midway or Irving Nimitz next week in the regional quarterfinals.
