Congratulations to the St. Mark’s debate team for besting hundreds of teams this weekend at the 14th Annual International Public Policy Forum in New York City. Aakash Pattabi, Ammar Plumber, and Darwin Yang won first place and received $10,000 for their program and scholarships.

The team, coached by David Baker, argued affirmatively for the IPPF topic “Mass surveillance is not a justified method of governmental intelligence gathering.”

St. Mark’s beat the St. Paul Academy and Summit School from St. Paul, Minn. at the final debate at The Harold Pratt House.

“We are proud of these students and their amazing accomplishment,” said William A. Brewer III, partner at Bickel & Brewer and a founder of the IPPF. “They distinguished themselves among a standout field with their superior research, writing and advocacy skills – and are truly deserving of the title IPPF World Champion.”
