Jesuit Rugby Title Looks Pretty in Pink

It’s been a successful campaign by any measure for the Jesuit rugby team, which capped the season by winning the Rugby Texas Plate Division State Championship on Sunday at Postell Stadium.

The Rangers finished with a 13-5 record and claimed not only a state title, but also won the Jesuit Dallas Rugby Showdown trophy earlier this spring. Plus, head coach Anthony Mattacchione earned his 200th career victory along the way.

In the state title game, which Jesuit won 23-14 over Round Rock, the Rangers wore special pink jerseys in honor of Mariana Day, mother of Jesuit senior Juan Martin Day. Mariana is battling cancer and had surgery just three days before the final game. Juan responded by scoring 13 points off kicks against the Dragons.
