The victory was worth the wait for ESD on Friday, as the Eagles crushed rival St. Mark’s 34-14 for its first win in the series in more than a decade.

Jack Johnson was the workhorse, accumulating 190 yards on 30 carries with four touchdowns as ESD took a 21-0 lead at halftime and never looked back at Jones Stadium.

Winston Guillory tallied 152 receiving yards on six catches, and Thomas Fitts connected with Nakeie Montgomery on a short scoring pass just before halftime. Defense also played a key role for the Eagles (2-0) by forcing four turnovers.

Justin Jones scored both touchdowns for the Lions (1-1), on a long pass from Hyer Thomas to open the second half and a 15-yard run on the final play of the game.

The victory will give ESD momentum heading into a two-game stretch against public-school competition, including a home game against San Augustine next Saturday. The Lions, meanwhile, will open SPC divisional play on Friday at Fort Worth Country Day.
