Jordan Spieth is now a veteran at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, his hometown PGA Tour event that begins Thursday at the TPC Las Colinas in Irving.

It also has been a major part of the rapid rise to success on the professional circuit for Spieth, who is just three years removed from walking the halls at Jesuit.

Spieth, 20, will tee off this week in his fifth Nelson tournament. His round will start on the 10th hole at 7:40 a.m., followed by a 12:40 p.m. tee time on No. 1 on Friday.

“I love the whole setting. It brings back great memories,” Spieth said on Wednesday. “This is a tournament that is very special for me. I owe a lot to this golf tournament and those first couple of starts.”

The expectations certainly will be higher than 2010, when he made his debut at the tournament as an amateur and remained in contention until the final day.

Spieth will be among the favorites at the tournament as the reigning PGA Tour rookie of the year. He won the John Deere Classic last year, and already has five top-5 finishes this season, including a runner-up showing at The Masters and a tie for fourth last week at The Players Championship.

Spieth teamed with fellow pro Harrison Frazar of University Park to host a youth clinic on Tuesday at the Four Seasons Resort and Club.
