No Debating the Skills of These HP Students

The debate team at Highland Park High School will try to cap an inarguably stellar season this weekend at the UIL Class 4A CX debate state tournament in Austin.

HP dominated at the district cross-examination meet in January, with the team of juniors Reid Wyde and Joe Warner winning a district title, with sophomore Helen Zhang and freshman Michael Cerny as the runners-up. Both teams advanced to state.

Also qualifying for state is the tandem of senior Holmes Hampton and junior Vinaik Sundaresan, who claimed first place out of 55 teams at a tournament in Colleyville on Feb. 1. The same pair placed 17th at the Barkley Forum in January at Emory University in Atlanta.
