It turns out the Highland Park girls basketball team didn’t even need to make the trip to Terrell for the chance to clinch a playoff spot on Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers spared them the travel by forfeiting the game because of a lack of players. Putting aside that embarrassment on Terrell’s end, it means HP (17-9, 8-6) will indeed qualify for postseason play.

The Lady Scots will play in the bi-district round early next week against an opponent to be determined. Unless Mesquite Poteet upsets West Mesquite tonight, HP will finish third in the district standings and will face the runner-up from District 9-4A.

That would likely mean a matchup with The Colony, but it won’t be determined for sure until after tonight’s regular-season finales. The other possibility is Frisco Centennial. We’ll update this post later tonight with the details.

UPDATE: The Colony did beat Little Elm 45-29 to secure the second seed from 9-4A, and after Tuesday’s other results, HP indeed will be the third seed from 10-4A. We will pass along information about the impending playoff game when we get it.
