Here’s a Look at Last Week’s Crimes

Until we’re ready to send out our weekly emailed police report, we’re going to post the crimes here. The most notable incident last week happened on Christmas Eve at NorthPark Center. Read on.

23 MONDAY

Between 9:45 and 10:50 p.m., a burglar broke into a blue 2010 Honda sedan in Preston Center and stole an undetermined amount of property.

Between 5:15 and 5:40 p.m., a thief entered a silver 2014 Kia SUV that had been left unlocked in the Lincoln Park shopping center and stole a $300 Coach purse that held a $300 Samsung Galaxy phone, $250 worth of makeup, a $150 Coach wallet, and 10 credit cards.

24 TUESDAY

At 9:15 a.m., a shoplifter ran out of The Gap in the Preston Oaks Shopping Center with 30 pairs of jeans valued at $1,439.70. The manager was able to snap a clear picture of the license plate on the blue 1997 Honda sedan driven by his accomplice.

At 11:22 a.m., a man was sitting in his silver 2004 Mazda hatchback on the third floor of a NorthPark Center parking garage when a gunman approached him, put a pistol to his shoulder, and said, “What valuables do you have?” The man replied that he had Christmas gifts, his wallet, and his phone. The robber demanded the wallet, and the man handed over the $125 Coach accessory that held $250 in cash and two credit cards. The robber then asked where the man’s gifts were, and the man said they were in the back. The robber took the man’s $500 iPhone, opened the rear door, and removed a $300 Eagle Creek suitcase that held a $400 PlayStation 4, two Polo sweaters with a total value of $110, a $100 Michael Kors wallet, five DVDs with a total value of $90, two shirts with a total value of $75, a $20 scarf, and a $20 blouse. Before walking away with the suitcase full of gifts, the robber said, “Stay in your car for 15 minutes. We will be watching you.” The man did as he was told. When he got out of the Mazda 15 minutes later, he found his phone on the ground and dialed 911.

At 1:30 p.m., a man got into an argument with another man and a woman at NorthPark Center. The woman punched him in the face, and then the man put a small gun to his face and said, “You better not.” The couple fled the mall in a red 2013 Chevy Camaro.

Between 3 and 4 p.m., a pickpocket stole a $600 white iPhone 5 from a woman’s purse at NorthPark Center.

Between 4:50 and 5:10 p.m., a vandal smashed a window on a silver 2002 Mitsubishi SUV at NorthPark Center. Nothing was reported stolen.

Between 4:30 and 9:15 p.m., a burglar kicked in the back door of a house in the 4600 block of Royal Lane and stole an $1,800 Toshiba laptop and a $900 55-inch Samsung television.

25 WEDNESDAY

At 12:30 a.m., a shoplifter tried to steal a $30 toy helicopter from 7-Eleven in the 7900 block of Forest Lane. The toy was recovered.

26 THURSDAY

Between noon and 1 p.m., a burglar broke into a white 2002 GMC van in Inwood Village and stole eight items of clothing with a total value of $400.

At 2:30 p.m., a shoplifter walked out of Neiman Marcus in NorthPark Center with at least $395 worth of clothing hidden in her bags. Evelyn Ewere Omuemu, 32, was arrested on a theft charge.

At 4:20 p.m., a silver 2011 Nissan sedan ran a stop sign at the intersection of Thackery Street and Desco Drive, nearly colliding with a green 2014 Mercedes sedan. The driver of the Mercedes honked his horn and continued to his destination, the post office in the 8600 block of Turtle Creek Boulevard. The Mercedes driver noticed that the Nissan had followed him to the post office and was slowly driving around the parking lot, so he gestured toward the Nissan and told its driver to watch where she was going. When he emerged from the post office a few minutes later, there was a 3-foot scratch on the driver’s side of the Mercedes.

At 6:50 p.m., a shoplifter walked out of Dillard’s in NorthPark Center with two $49.99 pairs of jeans hidden in his hooded sweatshirt. Louis Albert Martin, 30, was arrested on a theft charge.

At 9:30 p.m., a shoplifter walked out of Macy’s in NorthPark Center with $262.50 worth of clothing that had not been paid for. Someone was arrested but not identified; the clothes were recovered.

28 SATURDAY

Between 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 26 and 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 28, a burglar entered an attached garage in the 5600 block of Boca Raton Drive through an unlocked window. The burglar caused $500 worth of damage to the door between the garage and the house, but it was not clear if anything was stolen.

At 1:30 p.m., shoplifters stole seven pairs of sunglasses with a total value of $1,820 from Sunglass Hut at NorthPark Center.

29 SUNDAY

Between 3:52 and 4:09 a.m., a burglar entered a house in the 5700 block of Berkshire Lane and stole a $2,100 Mac Book Pro, a $350 Canon camera, a $350 Sony camcorder, a $250 Sony DVD player, a $250 Coach purse, $200 in cash, a $150 Kate Spade wallet, and various gift cards and credit cards.

Between 1 and 8:30 a.m., a burglar stole a white $293 Dell tablet and a $30 pair of Puma sneakers from a white 2010 Volkswagen sedan in the 7000 block of Briarmeadow Drive.

Between 11 a.m. on Dec. 28 and 10 a.m. on Dec. 29, a burglar entered a black 2006 Pontiac SUV in the 7000 block of Briarmeadow Drive and stole a key to a white 2014 Volkswagen coupe. The burglar then stole a pair of jackets with a total value of $250 and a $100 purse from the Volkswagen. The burglar dumped the purse and its contents in the driveway, sans $500 in cash. The jackets were dumped in separate trash bins in the alley.

Between 8 p.m. on Dec. 28 and 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 29, a burglar stole a $1,000 Dell laptop and one can of soda from a white 2009 Toyota SUV in the 9800 block of Crest Meadow Drive, leaving behind the rest of a case of sodas.

Between 6 p.m. on Dec. 27 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 29, a vandal spray-painted graffiti on a garage and fence in the 4900 block of Heatherbrook Drive.

Between 9 p.m. on Dec. 27 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 29, a thief stole two side mirrors with a total value of $500 from a white 2010 GMC Yukon parked in a rear driveway in the 4500 block of Twin Post Road.
