The Highland Park Scots football team will open practice at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Highland Park, which went 9-2 (7-0) last season, will play host to Plano West in its lone scrimmage at 7 p.m. on Aug. 23. Eight nights later, the Scots will take on Aledo at 7 p.m. in the Tom Landry Classic at Allen’s Eagle Stadium.

The Landry Classic is normally held at SMU’s Ford Stadium, but it had to be moved because of the Mustangs’ season opener against Texas Tech on Aug. 30. Aledo handed Highland Park its only regular-season loss with a 31-12 victory in last year’s opener.

The Scots will then take on Monterrey (Mexico) Tec and Sherman to close out non-district play. Highland Park will have a bye week before opening District 10-4A action on the road at Forney on Sept. 26.

Highland Park’s players will also be hosting a clinic for players ages 2nd through 5th grade at from 10 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 24 at the indoor practice facility. The cost is $25 per student. Proceeds will go to the Gridiron Heroes, an organization that helps players permanently injured in football accidents.

Registration will be at 9:30 that morning at the indoor facility.
