What Ever Happened to Soaping Fountains?

As I enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend, I blew bubbles with my son and watched them pop on the surface of a pool. That’s when it occurred to me: It’s been a while since I’ve heard of any Park Cities kids pouring soap into a fountain. That seems like such a harmless prank compared to, say, a bomb threat or a box of shell casings. Something to think about as classes resume today in Highland Park ISD.

The water at Hillcrest and Lovers was full of suds a few weeks ago. Fountains may be OK, but soap is not OK in the spillways in Turtle Creek and Exall Lake, where wildlife live.

The high school culprit enjoys having everyone say “How high?” when he says “Jump.” Suds aren’t enough. If this were just a prank he would have stopped when he heard “Felony.”

I just don’t get the reason for this post, to remind kids to soap the fountain? I thought I read here that it costs hundreds of dollars to clean the fountain after a soaping. And frankly, it’s just not that original. Clearly better than a bomb threat, but I’m not sure that one has to do with the other.

@hp student – what would you like to read about? I do think the PCP should also cover things that really are of interest to HP students.
