UPS Store in Highland Park Village Moves Upstairs

At this morning’s meeting, the Highland Park Town Council approved Highland Park Village’s rezoning request. The Village’s UPS store is located in a ground-floor space zoned for retail. They want to move the store upstairs to Suite 209, which is classified as office space. With this morning’s vote, the new spot will be zoned for retail, so UPS can go on with its postal operations.

The relocation means a “parking demand of two additional spaces.” The Village has 29 “surplus” parking spaces, so with the modifications, that number will become 27. Kirk Smith, the town’s development services manager, tells me that this change does not affect public parking at the Village; it’s just a necessary change to the “shared use parking methodology,” a.k.a. parking requirements for office versus retail space.

What are the rules regarding valet reserved spots in the village? What time can they start throwing out the cones to “claim” spots? How many can they technically block off?

@Avid Reader – Nothing was said at today’s council meeting regarding public valet parking. This discussion was just in reference to how they designate spots for office versus retail use.

@Sarah Bennet, Should have been more clear; does anyone know the above questions regarding the valet in the village? Where would one find that information?

@Avid Reader – I would start by contacting the general manager’s office at 214.272.4872.

Sarah, I think Avid Reader is suggesting that a reporter should obtain this information. A reporter like you.

@Sarah and Avid Reader – I handle the marketing for HP Village and hope this info helps — HP Village provides free valet service for our guests. We have our valet service, Jack Boles, section off the safest and most convenient drop off areas when demand requires – usually near restaurants and during busy restaurant times. Occasionally, if a tenant has an event or party that includes a tent or we have a film crew here, we will cone-off additional parking spots earlier in the day to be sure they are available when they are needed. We always have a valet stand near Café Pacific and in or near the breezeway off of Mockingbird and encourage guests to use valet.

    Hope this helps!

@avid reader – I’m an avid responder and, just like you, I like to make comments on news stories because I am too lazy to call and find out about the valet myself or am too cheap to pay for valet and get bugged when they require parking spots.

@Avid Responder, What blogs are you an “avid responder” on? Would love to see your other responses.
