University Park United Methodist Church Youth Leader Involved in Alleged Sexual Abuse

On Jan. 16, James Truman Ackley, a 25-year-old youth leader at UPUMC was arrested and charged with one felony count of sexual assault on a child and one felony count of online solicitation of a minor.

The arrest warrant says that Ackley was having a sexual relationship with a girl in the church who was under 17 years of age. The report says that the girl’s father noticed that she was receiving text messages at night, and after checking his phone record saw several messages and calls from an unknown number. The daughter identified the number as Ackley’s, and while they were discussing the matter, the girl received an explicit photo (presumably of Ackley) from the same number.

The news was originally reported by Culture Map, and we will have the full story in Friday’s issue of Park Cities People.

Notify the middle school, unless they’ve changed their policy of inviting ministers into the lunchroom.
