Jesuit senior wide receiver Jake Oliver won the GMC Tom Landry Award during a ceremony on Monday night at the Communities Foundation of Texas.

Oliver, a University of Texas commit, broke the state record for receptions and moved into second place in touchdown catches and receiving yards to wrap up his career as a Ranger. He beat out McKinney Boyd’s Bryan Driskell, Arlington Martin’s Kyle Hicks, Southlake Carroll’s Kenny Hill, and Allen’s Oliver Pierce for the award. Texas running back Johnathan Gray, who won the first two Tom Landry Awards, was on hand to announce the winner.

“To be mentioned with him [Gray] and all of the other finalists here is a great honor,” Oliver said. “My heart was pounding. I thought Kenny Hill was going to win it. It was complete and utter happiness. I’ve grown up a Dallas Cowboys fan my entire life — ever since I was a little kid. I’ve known about Tom Landry every since I was young. My dad always talked to me about him, and I always see videos about him. Just being mentioned in the same sentence with him is unreal. It’s a great honor.”
