Scots 20, Mesquite Poteet 19, Final

Highland Park punched the ball in on a two-point conversion attempt by quarterback Jet Tuma with 52 seconds left to give the Scots a 20-19 lead over a stunned Mesquite Poteet team on Thursday night at Memorial Stadium. Chris Mitchell then came up with an interception with 28 seconds left to seal the improbable win and keep the Scots undefeated in District 10-4A play.

“Our guys just fought their guts out,” Scots head coach Randy Allen said. “We beat a really good football team tonight. Their defense was very impressive. We couldn’t do a lot of things against them we wanted to do. We just had to throw the ball at the end and happened to find something that worked. Our guys did a great job of executing.”

Seriously, Dan? That comment is totally inappropriate.

Poteet deserved to lose because of their dirty play throughout this game. Props to the Scots for fighting to the end and proving to everyone who the better team is.

Speaking of good looking uniforms, how about the Highlander Band with their new uniforms! Shameless plug to the band boosters and HP Arts for the funds to make it happen, Director Mr. Brumley and the student Band Leadership Team for the design decisions, and thanks to Park Cities People for showing them off to the community via a great looking front page this week.

    @ Clare,

Why exactly is that (humorous) comment inappropriate?

Come on guys, Clare doesn’t listen to The Ticket. Why do we have to have winners and losers anyway? Let’s turn the scoreboard off, both teams deserve a nice participation ribbon or trophy.

A snarky comment on a blog. Who would have imagined it?

I would guess it’s because we couldn’t have held up against them during overtime. They wore us out. But we came away with the W.

There were 5 reasons we went for 2 on the last play: 1) our first PAT was blocked, 2) our second PAT was almost blocked and missed wide right (could also be attributed to high winds), 3) our offensive line was incredibly dominant all night, and our running game was gettin 2-3 yards per play easy, 4) we have a very good running QB this year, 5) its Coach Allen. What did you expect, conservative play? Please.

The players convinced the coaches to go for two. The plan was to kick the PAT, but the player’s realized we had the momentum and wanted to win in regulation play. It was a complete team win! With that said, we have to get the passing game in gear for a playoff push. Go Scots!

The weather forecast for this Friday will be ideal for football. Come out to Highlander and support the Scots for this week’s game versus West Mesquite.
