Park Cities Diner to Open Labor Day

As I mentioned almost exactly one month ago, The Front Room: A Park Cities Dinner is slated to open soon.

So soon, in fact, that it will open on Monday. Labor Day. Nothing like opening a restaurant on a holiday dedicated to honoring the contributions of workers. Anyway, like I said Aug. 1, the Hotel Lumen eatery must include these three things to be counted as a diner in my eyes:

– gyro

– strawberry shake

– disco fries

The menu skews a bit classier — short ribs, parmesan fries, edamame hummus — but we’ll see.

    This is what comes to mind when thinking about what defines a diner:

    * Counter with stools(non-negotiable), booths at the windows, mini jukebox at the tables
    * All the coffee you can handle, and then some
    * Case filled with cakes, pastries, etc. (although in my life, I have never seen someone order cake at a diner, certainly not enough to justify the 20 cakes in the case)
    * A jar at the checkout with toothpicks and those candies with the jelly inside
    * All checks should be paid at the checkout counter, NOT given to the waitress.
    * Breakfast served all day
    * A holder on the table with jelly/ jam in plastic little tubs that you peel off the faux foil top
    * The menu has to be laminated and at least 10 pages to cover the entire world cuisine spectrum (Goulash/ Pancakes/ Pot Roast/ Grilled Cheese/ etc.). It should weigh about 5 pounds, and have an elastic band in the binding to hold it together
    * Every meal should come with cole slaw and pickles
    * Greeks
