Coming off  helping Texas win an NCAA golf national championship as a freshman, Jesuit alum Jordan Spieth will play in this week’s U.S. Open in San Francisco. And even though Spieth has played in multiple PGA events, this will be his first major. He will tee off at 3:14 p.m. Thursday in a group with Bill Haas and Nick Watney.

Spieth replaces Brandt Snedeker in the U.S. Open field. The two-time U.S. Amateur Open champion will play in two more PGA events after the U.S. Open — the AT&T National (June 28-July 1) and the John Deere Classic (July 12-15).

Spieth, who was also named an All-American, has made three cuts in five pro events, including both times he played in the Byron Nelson Championship.
