Town Hall Revisions Head to Workshop Thursday

In last week’s paper, I mentioned that Highland Park’s town hall revision bids came in at $18.44 million, nearly 25 percent over budget.

In the meantime, the bids for the project were rejected.

Councilmembers will take a crack at shrinking that number during a workshop at 8 a.m., Thursday. Residents are welcome.

Mr. Pearson, I must share my chuckle. I read in the related PCP print article quoting Councilman Barr about “I don’t think tile in the bathrooms needs to go all the way to the ceiling.” (no offense intended councilman)

That’s not going to save the runaway costs. I would suggest to completely downsize “the size” of the renovation and maintain the “quality” the HP town hall deserves. This building is a real beauty and deserves quality.

To maintain the current large expansion and to now be forced to cut corners to save $$$ with cheap quality. It will show. Keep “quality” in the project equation and….downsize.

Borrowing from the equipment, capital projects, and general fund coffers is not an answer but a bandaid. I was under the impression from town leaders this project was paid for?

    My opinion as a resident.

    Have a great day!

Why not open the bids up to multiple bidders? Competition always drives down prices.

Gringo- The project was open to multiple bidders, but, for some parts of the project, only one bid was submitted.
