Top Basketball Recruit Chooses SMU

Blaise Mbargorba, a center from The Peddie School in New Jersey, has signed with SMU.

The 7’0″, 230 lb. senior is the first ESPN 100 recruit to sign with the Mustangs since at least 2006, when ESPN began their recruiting list. Mbargorba also had offers from Marquette, Vanderbilt, Clemson, and (cough) my alma mater, Saint Joseph’s.

SMU is currently rated as the 302nd best team in NCAA Division I hoops, out of 344 schools, according to Real Time RPI. A Top 100 recruit would hopefully be a decent boost out of that basement.

Interesting article on St. Joe’s on the “cover” of CNNSI. Let’s just say, it won’t help them get any Top 100 recruits.

XT- Agreed, though I suspect there is more to the story. This one’s been kicking around the message boards for a while. Certainly a black eye after back-to-back wins over No. 18 Creighton and rival Villanova. Not good.

Doherty has had more than enough time to do something w/ that program. Not sure he’ll be around to see this guy play if he doesn’t do something this year.
