Rise and Shine, Park Cities (7-11-11)

Good morning, Park Cities.

  1. Casey Castellaw’s HP Dance Company announced last night that former Highland Belles director and local celebrity, Cathy Wheat, will be joining the dance empire, providing private instruction this fall.
  2. Don’t forget to set your DVR for the premiere of Style Network’s Big, Rich, Texas  next Sunday night, July 17. If you miss it, I’ve got your back. I’ll be recapping each episode on D Magazine’s Front Row. Anyone see any darkness in the show’s debut being scheduled on the same day Casey Anthony is due to be released from prison? Just sayin’.
  3. I did the big send-your-kids-off-to-camp thing yesterday. This is Camp Longhorn year 5 for one of my kids and year 3 for another. The bus leaves at 9:30 but there’s always some hold up for a late arriving camper- yesterday they didn’t pull out until 10:00 because some parent was parked in front of the busses. It took forever to locate the owner of the vehicle and kindly ask him to move. I don’t get it. I just don’t.

If clueless drivers is the topic… twice during the construction at Highland Park Village cars have parked in the – marked off by a hundred yellow cones – temporary u-turn lane in front of Tom Thumb, requiring an exit to Preston or Douglas and circling the block. Perhaps they thought it was a special parking place marked off just for them?!?

Speaking of the HP Belles, how many of you have been “carpet-bombed” by current Belles with requests to buy tickets for annual dinner and auction? At last count, we had 10 solicitations, with more arriving daily. Having had kids at HPHS for the last 10 years, this is the first year we’ve received more than two. What a terrible waste of paper, stamps etc, since I doubt most families will buy from more than 1 or 2 of the girls.
As I recall, the Belles or maybe it was the Belle Moms, used to take the list of all HPHS families and divide up which Belle sent a solicitation to which family. Apparently, that has gone by the wayside. Hopefully, the cheerleaders, choir, band etc. will take note and not do the same thing.

I was also there and I do not get it either! I think it was 2 cars blocking the buses. Everyone had to continue waiting on the baking Valley View asphalt until those vehicles were moved. Year 3 for my kid too 🙂
