Oncor Rates to Rise in University Park

Money is power. And power costs money. Soon, that power will cost a little more money in University Park.*

The UP City Council approved a 6 percent rate increase at Tuesday’s meeting, meaning an average increase of $2.50 per month for each household. That’s the bad news.

The good news is the increase could’ve been 14 percent, but the city banded together with 159 other municipalities to fight the hike, and whittled it down to 6 percent. Want to read the whole settlement/ bored to death right now? Click here.

* I fully understand that this lede did not work, but I had The Lox’s “Money, Power, Respect” stuck in my head all morning, and this was a brief, albeit halfhearted, catharsis. 1998 was a pretty bad year for music, but The Lox held it down that year. At least 14-year-old Brad thought so.
