Highland Park Sweeps Regional Meet

The Highland Park cross country teams made it a clean sweep of the Class 4A Region II Meet on Saturday at Arlington’s Vandergriff Park.

Led by Natalie Rathjen’s first-place finish, the Lady Scots tallied 34 points to cruise to the victory. Rathjen, a freshman, ran an 11:05.01 to beat McKinney’s Meghan Shea by nearly 12 seconds.

For the Scots, Philip Todd led the way with a second-place finish. He ran a 15:39.92 to finish nearly 10 seconds behind Frisco Liberty’s Brady Turnbull. As a team, the Scots had 63 points.

Both teams will compete at the Class 4A state meet on Saturday at Round Rock’s Old Settlers Park. The girls will race at 10:50 a.m., followed by the boys race.
