Get a Sneak Peak of Red Bull’s ‘Art of Can’ in Preston Hollow

Red Bull: Not known for its taste

Readers of D Magazine might recognize the event–it is, after all, splashed across the mag’s back cover–but for those who haven’t heard, the Red Bull Art of Can is coming to the Galleria from July 31 through August 22. The concept is simple: Make cool-looking stuff inspired by Red Bull or using the ubiquitous blue-and-silver cans. Anyone undeterred by the soupy (Campbell’s, of course) mix of commerce and art can enter, or at least could have had they done so by the May 10 deadline. The artist with the most awesome sculpture/picture/video, as determined by a panel of judges, will get a trip to Art Basel Switzerland. Selected works will also be used in an ad campaign.

Which brings me to my point. If three weeks is just too long to wait to catch a glimpse of the aluminum creations, Red Bull is hosting a sneak preview of the Dallas show from 6 to 9 p.m. July 15 at an on-the-market Hillcrest Estates home at 11032 Eastview Circle. The event ain’t exactly free–it costs $50–but it benefits the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, which is a good thing. For more information, visit DIFFA Dallas’ website.
