Accident on Mockingbird Due to Faulty Gas Pedal?

Just sifting through this week’s police report from Highland Park DPS, and the write up for Friday’s major accident on Mockingbird Lane caught my eye. The driver of a Lexus RX300 collided with several trees and bushes between the 3400 and 3500 blocks of Mockingbird Lane. She was taken to Parkland Hospital, where she gave her version of events:

“I was stopped at the light (Mockingbird at Hillcrest) and went to accelerate. The car took off really, really fast in the blink of an eye. I did what they told me to do. I tried to put the car in neutral and it wouldn’t stop. THe motor was racing and I hit a tree.”

Police officers said that the driver didn’t show signs of alcohol consumption or intoxication at the scene.

This has become the de facto excuse for every accident-prone driver of a Toyota/Lexus. Not a single RX model was involved in the recall.

Although I commend the use of “I did what they told me to do”, she’s probably a lousy driver that hit the gas instead of the brakes.
