Steve Cooke Doesn’t Even Know Huddleston. So There.

There’s been a lot of discussion (in the comments section of this blog and around town) about U.P. city council candidate Steve Cooke. Voters seem to be under the impression that Cooke is a member of Camp Huddleston. I spoke with Cooke today and was surprised to hear that he has never met Huddleston and has never spoken to him either.

Cooke said he received a voice mail about a month ago but he “didn’t recognize the name at first.” Cooke returned the call, left Huddleston a message and has never heard back from him.

Cooke also said he had no idea the sign with his name on it was going up on the Chase building. No one ever asked him or warned him.

Clearly Huddleston is just voting AGAINST the incumbents.

It has been my policy to not respond to anonymous blog postings. However, after hearing from several people whose opinions I respect, I realized that I’ve been mistaken to not clear the air since many of you seem to have the entirely wrong perception of me.

I do not know and have never spoken to Albert Huddleston or anyone from Legacy Hillcrest.

I believe University Park is a residential City and the safety, security and comfort of its residents are much more important than any commercial interest.

I believe University Park Citizens for Better Government is legitimate, but have politely refused additional support (they offered to design and print yard signs for me and wanted me to supply a quote and my signature for another mailing) since the banners went up on the Chase building.

I am nothing more than a regular UP dad who, now having greater control of his time, an interest in the governance of our City and the confidence that he’d be a good Councilmember, decided to do something about the grumbling he’d heard that the City Council wasn’t representative of our community’s families.

I hope you will visit my website, http://www.CookeforUP.com, to see further details about the above issues and more. My website does not “mine” the email addresses of those who visit it. I tried to be careful to only send my early voting reminder email to friends, recommended friends of friends and acquaintances involved in activities with my family. I apologize to anyone who received an unwanted email.

If you have concerns, issues or ideas you would like to discuss with me, please email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to call you if you leave a contact number.

    Thank you,

    Steve Cooke
