Don’t Get Bogged Down With Details. University Park Citizens For Better Government Looks at the Big Picture.

It’s no secret that I’d like to see some new blood mixed in with the good ole boys but even I couldn’t pass this one up.

I received this fancy ad in the mail, paid for by University Park Citizens for Better Government, addressing the mega-hot issue of parking in Snider Plaza. Big topic. So it would be important to know how to spell it. It’s not Snyder. It’s Snider. But let’s stay focused on the bigger picture. Like this…

If some of your candidates responded to the DMN questionnaire and none of the opponents did, that totally rocks. You can point it out, like I did. But here’s the deal. If only two of your three guys filled it out and you say all 3 did, that’s not so accurate and then voters are forced to decide which is worse- inaccuracy or non-responsiveness. I’m just sayin’.  But I love the cool flyer!

Halelujah!! I was not planning to vote in the U.P. elections. But, when I realized that someone had spent a lot of money on the fancy flyer, and yet are so out of touch with the community that they mis-spell such an important part of University Park – It helped to confirm my new decision to vote….for the other guys.

And to think that one of the big issues is a U.P. Library…which is currently where? In Snider Plaza! NOT Snyer, Texas!

I’m all for new blood, but I’d want to know first that these 3 are not bought and paid for by Legacy. Both the library and parking are issues related to Legacy. IJS.

AAARRRGG! That’s one of my biggest pet peeves! Nothing says “I’m not from around here” like someone who spells it Snyder Plaza.

Dear UP Citizens for Better Government, If you wanna be a player, do your homework and show some respect for our town center! Thank you!

Regarding a number of these ads that have come in the mail, it’s one thing to rail against the establishment and claim “we need transparency in government.” It’s another thing to take special interest money and not disclose who is fueling your campaign. As a community we owe it to ourselves to question our candidates and seek that they lead by example and not special interest. It’s hard to support those who do not disclose who they’re funded by and some of whom have never engaged in City government. That said, it is a democracy after all and they are free to do as they please. For those weighing their decision, “buyer beware.” Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet

*sigh* So you’re voting based on an error at a printing shop? Should we find out who the printer was and teach them not to disrepect UP by making a mistake on the spelling of a shopping plaza?

And, once again, the ugly “you’re not from around” here tag. And then you wonder why people call us “parkies” and say we live in “the bubble”. Keep blaming it on the new people, ignorance may in fact be bliss to you.

Rarely does a printer hand key the copy, much less do the design. Most likely, the design firm or agency is to blame for this one. But if the client was given a chance to proof before it went on the press, then the blame is squarely on him or her.

@D, It would really help if UP Citizens for Better Government would reveal their funding sources which they refuse to do. They will be required to do so however on May 6th, just before the election and we just might find a certain commercial property owner pulling the strings behind that curtain. Of course we all know that he lives on another planet.

    Max,

Don’t get confused, I agree with the frustration about what’s really behind (e.g. developers, property owners) some of the comments and positions of the candidates. But the fact that the printer made a mistake on “Snider” should be irrelevant. And the “not from around here” is just parochial and ignorant. I’ll base my vote on what’s best for UP, and who I think can best achieve that. As well as who will stop spending ridiculous money on redoing parks and signs.
