Is it The Tacos or The Margaritas?

Highland Park resident Rusty Fenton told roving reporter Silver Hogue that he doesn’t think people really go out for Mexican food; he said they go out for margaritas, and the food is extra.

But this picture taken at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fenton’s new Greenville Avenue taqueria, Rusty Taco, says otherwise. Unless all those folks just wanted to get their drink on early to make it through hump day.

Read more about Fenton’s new venture in today’s edition of Park Cities People.

A friend that knows Rusty told me weeks ago that he was going to take the Margarita making VERY SERIOUSLY, they aspire to make masterful ones. Can’t wait to give it a try. I’ll probably have a taco, too.

Been there and it’s a cool space. Should do gangbusters. Met Rusty and he seems like a good guy with the right attitude. If the tacos and margs are decent the lines will be out the door. Heck if mi cocina can stay in business with their mediocre food, Rusty’s should be a great success.

We went there yesterday. Huge crowd and had to wait over 25 minutes for 8 tacos. The tacos were good, but really nothing great (and certainly not worth the wait). The taquerias in Mexican parts of town are much better. My wife thought the same. But, Rusty will do very well b/c most Parkies & SMU students will not venture into those parts of town.

Gagree: Which taquerias would you recommend? Have seen many in other areas of town – but never know if they are any good! I do especially like the ones served at Fiesta on weekends- but that’s about all I have tried outside the hood….

whoknew-Some of my favorites are La Paisanita on Maple, Fuel City down on Industri, er Cesar Chav, er Riverfront. Another new place, Taco Joint on Peak is pretty good also. Will be trying Rusty Taco this week for lunch, looking forward to it.
